The Savannah College of Art and Design, situated in Savannah, was established in 1978 by Paula S. Wallace, Richard Rowan, and May and Paul Poetter. With only seventy-one students, eight faculty, four staff, five trustees, and eight majors, SCAD began its first academic year in the fall of 1979.
